I am originally from Houston, Texas, grew up the second of four children to a teacher/mom and a judge/dad, and moved to Abilene, Texas where I lived for eight years before gallivanting with my newlywed husband to Louisville, Kentucky to get my PhD in Rhetoric and Composition. I am currently an associate professor in the English Department at Baylor University where I teach courses in the Professional Writing Program. I am active on social media so you can interact with me there. I also blog occasionally about motherhood, academia, teaching, and being a preacher’s wife.
I am happily married to Shane Alexander, the preaching minister at Northcrest Church of Christ in Mexia, Texas. I have three beautiful, smart, and unique children, Elizabeth (8), Peyton (5), and Levi (2). One of her kids insists she is not a “real doctor.”
the outdoors, when my allergies cooperate.
taking pictures, when I remember to bring my camera.
hiking, jogging, walking, relaxing on the porch swing, going to the park, and running a 5K, when it’s not 110 degrees.
blogging, when I have an idea and the time.
watching TV shows with my husband, when we don’t fall asleep on the couch.
cooking gourmet food, which my two oldest kids eat and my youngest throws all over the floor.
watching cooking shows, when the TV isn’t co-opted by Phineas and Ferb or Sesame Street.
traveling, when we have the money and the time.
reading to my children, and debunking the idealistic cuddling myth.
playing games, and winning them, of course.
being alone, which is a rarity.
my own sense of humor (at least I crack myself up!).
